     In-Depth Workshops


           

 All classes run 9 am - 5 pm and cost $65 unless, otherwise noted.

MORE workshops provide demonstrations and hands-on experience in the field of renewable energy and sustainable living.  All classes are held at various MORE locations in New Bloomfield, Springfield, and St. Louis, Missouri.  The cost of each workshop includes a video, manual and printed materials, as needed.

2010 Workshop List

 *Sun, Wind, and Water: Learn about solar, wind, and water power and the benefits of creating a hybrid system of renewable energy. Location:  New Bloomfield, Missouri on August 28th, and October 9th, 2010.

*Basic photovoltaics: Students will learn the basics of photovoltaic systems. They will learn to describe and identify components, understand how PV works, the different applications and limitations of each system type, the solar window, energy efficiency and load estimates, identify PV mounting types, the basics of site assessment tools, and begin circuit design.  Location: St. Louis, Missouri on May 15th, July 1
0th, Sept. 18th, Nov. 13th, 2010.

 *Advanced Photovoltaics with an emphasis on (grid tie): Participants in this workshop will learn module characteristics, controller and inverter sizing, grid tie system types and advantages, wiring, grounding and disconnects, net metering, and design principles.  Location:  St. Louis, Missouri on June 12th, Aug. 14th, Oct. 16th, and Dec. 11th, 2010.

*Hydrogen on Demand system design: Participants in this workshop will learn how to design, build and install a hydrogen on demand system for gas or diesel powered engines.  Participants will learn how to effectively adjust a vehicle’s computer response to H.O.D.   Location:   St. Louis, Missouri on May 22nd, Aug. 21st, and Sept. 25th, 2010.

 
*Biodiesel: Learn how to make your own fuel from used vegetable oil. This class will demonstrate step-by-step the process of converting biodiesel at home and the materials required to do so.  Location:   St. Louis on October 9th and November 6th.  New Bloomfield on December 12th.  Marshfield, MO on June 26th, 2010.

 *Basic Solar Thermal: Learn to design, construct and install systems that utilizes the sun’s energy for solar cooking, space heating, drying of foods and clothing, hot water, and distillation.  Solar energy can provide 50-70% of residential and business energy needs.  Location: St. Louis, Missouri on June 27th, Oct. 2nd, and Dec. 4th, 2010.

*Gasification: Learn to extract clean energy from many different types of organic materials and waste products such as wood chips, switchgrass, and garbage to create electricity, run a car and even heat your water all with the amazing technology of syngas production.  Location:  St. Louis Missouri on June 5th, July 31st, and Sept. 11th, 2010.

*Electric Vehicle:
Location: St. Louis, MO on July 24th, and August 28th, 2010.

*Wind: Learn residential small wind for your home or business. Participants will learn site assessment, design, sizing, and affordable techniques to make wind energy a possibility for most income levels.
Location: Marshfield, MO on August 21st, 2010.

*Steam: Explore the various types of boilers and steam engines and learn how to assemble a complete home standby power system. Also learn how the parts of a boiler and engine work section by section in the class.
Location:  Marshfield, MO on May 8th, July 3rd, October 23rd, and December 18th, 2010.

*Building Dome Homes:
Location:  New Bloomfield, MO on June 26th, 2010. 

*Tilapia Fish & Greenhouse: This class is an introduction to Tilapia fish and water farming systems. Learn why tilapia fish farming is profitable, how to get your system started, maintenance, greenhouse diagram layouts, state regulations and more.
Location:  New Bloomfield, MO on May 15th, June 12th, and August 14th, 2010.

*Alternative Home Construction Methods: Learn how to build your own affordable dome home mortgage free, by using Straw Bales, Cord Wood and more. Participants will learn Geometry Basics, how to prepare the site, dome framing, window framing, roofing and more.
Location:  New Bloomfield, MO on June 26th.
